All the news that’s fit to eat

A look inside the forthcoming Frontier in Church Hill – Alamo BBQ owner Chris Davis is about to expand his empire in Church Hill with a second restaurant. Frontier, set to open in late November, will be housed in what was going to be Alamo’s catering space. Richmond Magazine’s Eileen Mellon has the scoop.

Fall Richmond Restaurant Week preview – The fall iteration of Richmond Restaurant Week is set to kick off October 22nd. The twice-yearly event offers up prix fixe plates at participating restaurants around town for just $29.18 and benefits Feedmore. Karri Peifer has a look at some of the menus that are trickling out so far right here.

A recap of Folk Feast 2018 – The 2018 rendition of Richmond Folk Feast took place last night, and it was mighty tasty. Some of the area’s best restaurants and chefs descended upon Historic Tredegar to serve up small plates – all an effort to fundraise to keep the Richmond Folk Festival free to attend. It was an awesome time, and if you couldn’t make the sold-out event, you can see Dave Parrish’s photo recap over here.

City launches Change For RVA Schools campaign – Speaking of eating out, Mayor Stoney’s administration launched a campaign this week entitled Change For RVA Schools, which encourages locals and visitors alike to dine out to support Richmond Public Schools. As you know, a (controversial) 1.5% meals tax rate hike that took effect earlier this year will support new school construction, so every penny counts. Learn more here.
