The Richmond metro area has been growing, and new data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows where people are moving from — especially the D.C. suburbs, Hampton Roads and the New York and Philadelphia areas. RVA also receives a lot of international migration, particularly from Asia. The data also shows where former Richmonders move to — notably, Atlanta.
The plan will see the transformation of the Navy Hill neighborhood and include an arena, hotel, retail and office, and more. Though committing to a public approval process, Mayor Stoney responded to one reporter’s question about a petition signed by 15,000 city voters to add a ballot referendum on the project saying, “The project’s moving forward either way. I don’t have time to worry about political stunts.”
In a recent VCU survey, 95.4% of students and employees expressed support for a continuation of the existing transportation agreement VCU and GRTC have been piloting since August 2018. Since January, VCU community members have accounted for approximately 12% of GRTC’s total ridership, averaging 87,400 trips a month.
