All the news that’s fit to eat

Doughnuts rolling into Manchester – If there are two things Richmond needs more of, it’s definitely doughnut shops and grocery stores. All kidding (I’m only half kidding though!) aside, a new doughnut shop is coming to Manchester–with a twist. Hot Diggity Donut, as the shop will be called, won’t just serve up the sweet treats, which they’re calling “craft donuts,” but also craft beer and cocktails! According to their Facebook page, they plan to open sometime in early 2018 at 1213 Hull Street. Get all the sweet, sticky details here.

A grocery store romance – Ah, yes. Grocery stores. The other thing that’s a dime a dozen in the River City. We have tons of options and many newcomers to the scene now, but many Richmonders still nostalgically remember Ukrop’s. Krysti Albus, writing for Richmond Magazine, fondly recalls our hometown supermarket and talks about her new flame, Publix–a grocery store whose service she says rivals that of Ukrop’s. Check it out here.

Charlottesville-based Poke Sushi Bowl poking into Short Pump – Sushi burritos and bowls are all the rage lately, and a growing chain from Charlottesville is pulling into town to serve up the trendy dishes. According to BizSense, Poke Sushi Bowl will set up shop in a 1,200-square-foot space in the Downtown Short Pump shopping center and will open its doors next year. More details here.

Fall food festivals galore – There’s no shortage of festivals in Richmond during the fall, and this weekend is no exception with Hogtober on Libby Hill, featuring some of the area’s best barbecue purveyors and plenty of craft beer and live music. Here’s a look at what to expect and a roundup of everything else going on over the next few weeks, hand-picked by Style Weekly’s Brandon Fox. Get the scoop.
