New rooftop “biergarten” to add a touch of Bavarian flair to Scott’s Addition next week
“The HofGarden,” a 5,000-square-foot taproom and rooftop beer garden spread across two floors, opens next Wednesday at The Hofheimer Building.
The rooftop bar craze hit Richmond in a big way in 2016, and this year, things are getting a little hotter–and in the case of The Hofheimer Building in Scott’s Addition, a little more German.
Owners Carter and Annie Snipes have teamed up with local restaurant veteran Bobby Kruger and added a rooftop Bavarian-style “biergarten” to their space, which will be spread across two floors when it opens to the public next Wednesday, May 3rd. The HofGarden, as it will be known, will be comprised of a 2,000-square-foot taproom on the first floor; on the rooftop a 3,000-square-foot patio will offer views of the surrounding neighborhood and feature a variety of regional and German beers, and a selection of German food as well.
The menu will feature light German fare including a variety of craft and imported sausages, cheeses, and mustards, the Snipes say. The beer program will feature 24 taps focused on German and regional beers and eclectic international wines. The new beer garden and taproom will complement the event venue located on the second floor, which opened last spring.
“This is a natural extension of our existing banquet operations,” said Kruger, who is serving as General Manager. “The nickname for the building, “The Hof,” just happened organically on social media. “HofGarten” is a famous park in Munich, so the idea of a German-influenced beer concept seemed like a natural fit in Scott’s Addition.”
The taproom and rooftop patio will have pub games like shuffleboard, foosball, darts, giant Jenga, and Connect Four. Weekly entertainment will include local DJs on Thursday nights and live acoustic music on Wednesdays and Fridays.
The beer garden and taproom will be open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 4:00 – 11:00 PM; the team plans to expand hours to span seven days a week in the near future.
The HofGarden located in the Hofheimer Building at 2818 W. Broad Street in Scott’s Addition.
