Downtown
Neighborhood vacuum leaf collection begins today, runs through January
Crews are starting today with the Museum District. Check out the map to see when leaves will be collected in your neighborhood.
As fall inches towards winter, the City of Richmond is beginning to collect all those fallen leaves around town. Beginning today through December 9th, leaf collection will take place in the Museum District, so watch for no parking signs so you don’t get towed.
After that, continuing throughout December and January, the Department of Public Works will host cleanups in neighborhoods that traditionally have a high volume of leaves. During this time, residents can dispose of up to 20 bags of leaves. The leaves must be bagged and ready for removal when City trucks arrive (between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM). The dates and locations are as follows:
- December 3rd: Stony Point, Woodland Heights and Windsor Farms
- December 10th: Westover Hills and Forest Hill Terrace
- December 17th: Worthington Farms and Woodhaven
- January 7th: Bellevue and Laburnum Park
- January 14th: Ginter Park and Washington Park
Check out the full city map here for more detailed information (PDF).
Vacuum leaf collection may be cancelled and rescheduled during inclement weather. The vacuum schedule also is available by calling 804.646.LEAF (5323).
Some tips from DPW crews:
- Rake leaves to your property line
- Do not rake leaves into the street
- Leaves must be placed out for collection by the start date indicated for your route
- Keep leaf piles less than 2 feet in height
- Keep leaves away from ditches, pipes, and culverts
- No dirt, rocks, metal, or branches (prevents crews from collecting your piles)
- Up to 20 bags of leaves will be collected during your vacuum cycle and up to six bags on your trash collection day year around
