Ugly Dumpling, the brand that pays homage to Shanghai’s centuries-old cooking techniques while cultivating an exciting experience to today’s modern palette, announced plans recently to expand to the Richmond area. Located at at 1601 Willow Lawn Drive, the restaurant plans to open in the 6,500 SF space located between Lucky Foot and Simply Safe at Willow Lawn later this year.
“This expansion marks a significant milestone for Ugly Dumpling, bringing its unique blend of flavors and culinary artistry to the vibrant community of Willow Lawn,” says Margaret M. Farrell, Head of Marketing for Vertex Hospitality. “Our mission has always been to delight taste buds with our unconventional, mouthwatering menu, and we believe Willow Lawn’s diverse food scene is the perfect foray into our expansion in the Richmond region.”
Ugly Dumpling’s culinary explorations leave no stone unturned. Its signature dish is Xiao Long Bao (XLB), a Chinese dumpling hailing from Shanghai filled with rich, delicious soup broth. Ugly Dumpling’s menu also features an array of Dim Sum, Wontons, traditional noodle and wok dishes with a spin, accompanied by traditional Shanghai appetizers and greens like Soy Garlic Wings, Scallion Pancake, and Bok Choy with Scallion-Infused Oil. Its extensive menu of teas and lattes, coupled with its sweet XLB, round out the menu.
