All the news that’s fit to eat
Pizza & Beer of Richmond opens at Cary Street Station – EAT Restaurant Partners’ newest concept, Pizza & Beer of Richmond, opened its doors late last week in the Cary Street Station development, the collection of retrofitted former GRTC bus barns south of the Fan. Featuring a variety of hand-made pizzas and a huge selection of beer, the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner service daily and boasts the largest patio in the city. Read on here.
Converted warehouse space will help food startups “Hatch” – A barren area of town will soon be fertile ground for food-based startup operations in Manchester. As part of the Clopton Siteworks, Hatch Kitchen RVA will provide flexible space for budding restaurateurs, food truck operators, and other food-centric businesses in a converted historic warehouse at 2601 Maury Street. It opens in August. Here’s what you need to know.
La Hacienda coming to Stony Point Fashion Park – At a mall in which not even a Starbucks or a Chipotle can survive (I’m not hating on Stony Point Fashion Park, but the place is a constant ghost town–I’m not entirely sure how anything remains open there), a new Mexican restaurant is rising up. La Hacienda will bring Mexican flavor to the former Chipotle, which closed at the beginning of the year. Details here.
Five food and wine festivals to enjoy this weekend – Not only is this weekend the return of the Greek Festival, but also Taste of Virginia at Innsbrook, the James River Wine Festival, and more. Robey Martin at CBS6 has a great roundup of everything you need to know about this weekend’s festivities, and what to try. Read it here.
Area gas stations serving up the best grub – With so many wonderful restaurants in town, the last place you’d probably think about for a great meal is a gas station, right? Surprisingly, there are a number of stations where you can fill up your car and your stomach and leave both really satisfied. Kendra Bailey Morris, writing for the Richmond Times-Dispatch, has a great roundup. I’ve gotta say I’m surprised she left off the Wise Choice Exxon in Centerville (eastern Goochland), home of some of the best fried chicken around. Seriously, it’s amazing stuff. Check out her list here.
Chez Max’s new chef-owner on building upon a legacy – Chez Max has been an institution in the West End for a decade and a half. Master Chef Alain Lecomte served up delicious French cuisine for six years in the space until his death in 2010. Karri Peifer at the RTD has details on the restaurant’s new direction under Chef Brian Moore, who quietly purchased the restaurant earlier this year, and the legacy he hopes to build upon. More here.
