Weekly Food News: Spoonbread Deux set to open, online ordering chaos, Best of Richmond, and more
This week we have a look at the new Spoonbread Deux in the West End (and an opening date), a roundup of Style Weekly’s “Best of Richmond” awards, a look at the awesome neighborhood spots around town, and more.
Style Weekly names 2018 Best of Richmond reader picks – Style Weekly readers have chimed in and voted on their favorite people, places, and things around the Richmond area, and there’s no shortage of restaurant picks! From the best patio to “Best Restaurant with the Worst Name,” there’s a myriad of categories to pour through. While awards like this may be a popularity contest to a degree, I think many of them are about on par with what I’d pick, too! See the winners here.
Opening date in sight for Spoonbread Deux – Chef Michael Hall is on the move, to the West End. I live on the block of his Fan restaurant, and man is it tasty. His second location is set to debut in the former Patina space in Wellesley in less than a month. Here’s what you can expect, and more about the “lawn party” he’s planning from Karri Peifer here.
Richmond’s best neighborhood spots, curated – Richmond’s eclectic culinary scene spans the city and suburbs, and some of the best places are sometimes in the most unexpected areas. Richmond Magazine has a comprehensive look at some of the best neighborhood restaurants and bars from Short Pump to Mechanicsville and beyond. Check it out here.
Online ordering means many new screens – Online ordering apps have provided a great new way for local restaurants to stay top of mind with their customers and provide a new revenue stream in addition to dine-in customers. But many apps sometimes means many screens, and, in the case of restaurants like Big Herm’s Kitchen, one employee manages a whopping eight online ordering systems in the restaurant. That’s crazy! Learn more about this new reality in Eileen Mellon’s piece in Richmond Magazine here.
