The new restaurant will pull from Ledesma’s culinary travels from Hawaii to Virginia. While complete details of the project’s concept and timeline will be announced soon, diners can also expect nods to Ledesma’s Filipino heritage.

The former Joy Garden restaurant, which occupied a building at 2918 W. Broad Street in Scott’s Addition for six decades, will soon be illuminated once again.

Well known local chef Mike Ledesma has signed a lease for a new restaurant venture in the 4,600-square-foot space, his first independent venture.

Ledesma most recently led the Richmond Restaurant Group’s operations team as Corporate Executive Chef where he managed the culinary programs for six restaurants including The Daily, East Coast Provisions, Pearl Raw Bar, The Hill Café and two Hard Shell locations. He is also the Executive Chef at Kabana Rooftop downtown.

The new restaurant will pull from Ledesma’s culinary travels from Hawaii to Virginia. While complete details of the project’s concept and timeline will be announced soon, diners can also expect nods to Ledesma’s Filipino heritage.

“When you open a restaurant, you get to take full ownership of the menu and the path it’s going to take,” he continued. “I like to have the ability to push culinary trends. When I play with food, I want it to be creative.”

“It’s a perfect fit with parking and accessibility to guests,” he said of the location in a news release Tuesday. “We’re working with a blank canvas, but we plan to play homage to the building’s history.”
