Weekly Food News: Best New Restaurants list, new life for Deco building, summer trends, and more
Indian cuisine is coming to Carytown, DECO’s building is coming back to life, and Richmond Magazine has a look at summer trends and some of the area’s best new restaurants to try.
Richmond Magazine releases “Best New Restaurants” list – It’s hard to keep up with all the openings and closings in the crazy world of #rvadine, but if you’re looking for a few highlights as to the best new places to check out, look no further than Richmond Magazine. Stephanie Ganz has the list and some dishes to try at new places like Amigo’s Family Restaurant, Shagbark Demi’s Mediterranean Kitchen, and more. Hope you’re hungry. Check out the full list right here.
Summer trends ahoy – Richmond Magazine also has some summer trends to read up on, including the abundance of poke in town (you know it’s becoming popular when even the seafood department of the Carytown Kroger adds it to their cases, which they recently did), rum cocktails, and fitness events at local breweries. Get caught up here.
Former DECO space getting new life under new ownership – Italian spot DECO Ristorante in the Devil’s Triangle (that’s in the Museum District for the uninitiated) shuttered in recent weeks, but a new restaurant is already slated for the space. Frances Santarella, owner of Tarrant’s Café’s two locations as well as Max’s On Broad, will open Little Saint (the meaning of her last name) this Fall. Expect a farm-to-table concept and nothing over $24. Karri Peifer with the Richmond Times-Dispatch has more.
From fro-yo, to noodles, to Indian cuisine – Two restaurateurs from Charlottesville will soon bring Indian food to Carytown. Tulsi Indian Cuisine will open later this year in the building that once housed Yapple Yogurt and then Spiral Noodle. Headed by Ravi Dahiya and Rinku Singh, the space should open this fall.
