The City of Richmond is teaming up with its animal shelter, Richmond Animal Care and Control, to celebrate National Take Your Dog to Work Day today. Multiple City Departments will host dogs from the city’s shelter in their offices this afternoon.

The Mayor’s office, Richmond Police Department, Richmond Fire Department, Department of Public Utilities, Department of Public Works, Department of Human Resources, Risk Management, and the Main Library will all participate in the fun.

Each dog found at these city entities will be available for adoption–with the overall goal, of course, of finding forever homes for these pups.

The city-funded shelter is open-admission and provides care to more than 3,200 animals each year.

“Richmond is committed to each life in the city, whether two- or four-legged, and we are proud to support and encourage citizens to visit our city shelter and adopt a pet,” Richmond Animal Care and Control said in a news release. “All the dogs participating are available for adoption and are updating their resumes and working on their ‘paw-shakes’ to make a great impression and possibly secure a forever home.”

The following locations will be hosting dogs Friday afternoon, June 23rd, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM:

  • Mayor’s Office (Jon Baliles, City Hall, 2nd Floor)
  • Human Resources (Korita Jones, City Hall, 9th Floor)
  • Public Works (Bobby Vincent, City Hall, 7th Floor)
  • Public Utilities (Bob Steidel, Waste Water plant, 1400 Brander Street)
  • Richmond Police Department (Steve Drew, Headquarters, 200 W. Grace Street)
  • Richmond Fire Department (Bill Lawson, RFD Headquarters, 201 E. Franklin Street)
  • Richmond Public Library – Main Library (Scott Firestine, Main Library, 101 E. Franklin Street)
