Richmond Police, YMCA team up for “Shop With A Cop” to prepare kids for school year
The annual event pairs Richmond Police with students to shop for school supplies and clothes ahead of the school year.
In collaboration with the Metro Richmond YMCA’s Bright Beginnings program, “Shop with a Cop” will pair Richmond youth with a Richmond Police officer to shop for school supplies and clothes in preparation for the upcoming school year today and Wednesday.
As part of the program, children in need will be paired with officers and visit the Forest Hill Target to shop for necessities before school starts back up.
“The YMCA and Target have been long standing community partners over the years,” said Capt. Daniel Minton. “We are able to engage with children and share a memorable experience.”
Along with helping students prepare for the upcoming school year, the annual event aims to build a foundation of community trust between police and youth.
Bright Beginnings is the largest outreach program of its kind, serving over 2,000 children in Central Virginia.
