Martin’s Food Markets will shutter three more of their eight remaining grocery stores in the Richmond market at the close of business today, Monday, July 10th. The move comes as the grocer looks to exit the market after parent company Ahold Delhaize purchased the Food Lion brand. Publix is currently renovating a large portion of the Martin’s grocery store portfolio. The first of those locations opens this Saturday, July 15th on Nuckols Road in Glen Allen.

The following locations will close today, leaving empty storefronts in their wake:

  • 6401 Centralia Road in Chesterfield
  • 5201 Chippenham Crossing Center in South Richmond
  • 11361 Midlothian Turnpike in Midlothian

Three more will close today but eventually reopen as Publix locations:

  • 9645 W. Broad Street in the West End
  • 7035 Three Chopt Road in the Near West End
  • 3522 W. Cary Street in Carytown

On August 2nd, the following five (and final) stores will follow:

  • 253 North Washington Highway in Ashland
  • 12601 Jefferson Davis Highway in Chester
  • 200 Charter Colony Parkway in Midlothian
  • 7045 Forest Hill Avenue in Richmond
  • 5700 Brook Road in Richmond

“We want to thank our associates for their hard work and dedication over the years, and we are grateful for the loyalty of our many customers,” Martin’s president Tom Lenkevich said in a news release.

Employees whose jobs were eliminated as part of the closures were offered a severance package, the details of which have not been made public.
