It’s Richmond Folk Festival weekend! The annual event brings together some of the best acts from across the country and around the world for three days of music, culture, dancing, food, and craft beer. More than 200,000 people attend the festival annually, making it the area’s largest outdoor event. With dozens of acts on seven stages, it’s hard to see everything. Thankfully, resident Folk Fest expert Page Hayes put together this awesome guide of must-see acts tonight through Sunday. Consider it your one-stop festival guide.

A number of artists visited RPS schools today, sharing their music and culture with students. Heading downtown to the festival? Check out this list of road closures and detours before you head out.

HandsOn Day 2016 is coming up. The annual day of service organized by HandsOn Great Richmond is looking to fill 1,300 volunteer slots for more than 60 area projects. The breadth of projects spans skills, interests, area of town, and age–there’s literally something for everyone. Check out the details hereand get involved to help improve our city.

Speaking of volunteer opportunities, the Museum District Association is seeking volunteers for its Fall Alley Cleanup taking place Saturday morning. Get the details and sign up here.

A new exhibition opens at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts November 12th, and it features one of the most iconic works of arts around, The Scream. “Jasper Johns and Edvard Munch: Love, Loss, and the Cycle of Life” The exhibit includes more than 120 paintings, drawings, prints, and photographs.

VCU has partnered with Sheltering Arms to open a 114-bed rehabilitation hospital in Goochland (in the West Creek office park, specifically). Richmond BizSense has all the details. The school has also partnered with HCA for an online degree program for working nurses. Finally, the university announced this week it has received a $6 million grant to support violence reduction initiatives and help strengthen the community over the next five years. You can read about what that might look like in practice here.

Going into what officials call the most stressful time of the year for those suffering from mental illness (and everyone, really), the County of Henrico has launched a new suicide prevention campaign called “Ask The Question.”

Elsewhere in Henrico, “Happy Days” star Henry Winkler (better known as Fonzie) will visit Glen Allen High School early next month for a Henrico Education Foundation fundraiser.

A West End staple and the family who owns it has lost its patriarch. Scott Elias Sr., owner of Boychik’s Deli in Innsbrook since 1990, passed away last Friday following a battle with cancer. BizSense has a great profile on Elias, the business he built, and how the family plans to honor his memory by continuing to run the restaurant he poured his heart and soul into.

Another local staple, O’Toole’s in Forest Hill, turns 50 years old this month, and it’s hosting one helluva party to celebrate.

Check out the rest of the area’s food news with our Weekly Food News here. We’ve got details on Early Bird Biscuit on Food Network, Henrico Restaurant Week (this week), Richmond Restaurant Week (in a few weeks, and much more.

Fancy some beer news? Richard Hayes has you covered in our RVA Beer Explorer with details on Folk Festival beers, Strangeways’ expansion, and much more.

What’s a Richmonder to do outside of the Folk Festival this weekend? Plenty! Check out “1776: The Musical” at Virginia Rep, see Hannibal Buress at the Carpenter Theater, enjoy chili from over 25 restaurants at the Visual Arts Center, and more. Make plans with our Weekend Event Picks here.
