VA SUN, a nonprofit that exists to support efforts to bring solar energy to the forefront in the state, is hosting an informational meeting on bringing a solar co-op to the area Wednesday evening.

The group is hosting a meeting to gauge public interest in launching a community solar co-op that will make it easier for homes and businesses in Richmond to switch to solar and generate their own power, while substantially reducing the cost of solar panels.

The proposed program would create a non-binding, community-driven program led by community members and VA SUN. Members of the proposed group would save 20% off the cost of going solar while having the support of the local community throughout the process, the nonprofit says.

The meeting will be held Wednesday, August 19th at 6:30 PM in the meeting room of the Glen Allen Library.

Attendees will get a primer on the basics of solar power and the entire the co-op process.
