RVA Bakehouse, a local artisan bakery founded in 2023, is opening a new storefront at Libbie Mill – Midtown in Henrico County. The bakery has signed a lease for a 2,096-square-foot space in the Penstock Quarter building, located at 5001 Libbie Mill East Boulevard, Suite 130. Work on the new location is set to begin soon.

Owned and operated by pastry chef Kim Buehler, RVA Bakehouse is known for its sourdough, specialty breads, and pastries. Buehler, who discovered her passion for baking while attending culinary school at the University of Richmond in 2006, brings more than two decades of experience to the business. She said the decision to open a retail space at Libbie Mill was driven by the area’s walkability and proximity to her growing customer base from local farmers markets.

“We are looking forward to baking for the neighborhood and beyond,” said Buehler. “The Libbie Mill – Midtown location fills a need in the area for freshly baked sourdough and pastries.”

RVA Bakehouse joins a growing lineup of shops and services at Libbie Mill – Midtown, a 90-acre mixed-use development by Gumenick Properties. The project, which began in 2013, is the largest infill redevelopment in Henrico County’s history and features residential, retail, and recreational amenities including a lake, pier, and public library.

“With only two retail spaces remaining, we’re close to fully leased,” said Diane Tidwell, director of property management at Gumenick Properties. “RVA Bakehouse adds a truly special offering to the community—whether it’s a quick bite or a fresh loaf of bread.”

The residential side of the development is also expanding. Construction is ongoing for Wrighthaven Square, a new apartment community scheduled to open in early 2026. Pre-leasing has begun for the Jordan’s Branch Apartments, a set of new rental condominiums.
