Forest View Cemetery Clean-up Day this Saturday

Forest View Cemetery Clean-up Day this Saturday

Forest View Cemetery is registered with the Virginia Department of Historic Resources and can be found on a map dated 1898, though it could date back much further.

Forest View Cemetery is a long forgotten cemetery at 4909 Bassett Avenue. Established in the 1800’s, the cemetery has suffered neglect in the ensuing years becoming overgrown with brambles and ivy. The Friends for Forest View Cemetery have been working diligently for over a year now to clean it up.

They with the help of RVA Goats have made a massive dent in the foliage that was covering the area. Now it’s time for the humans to get in there and take care of business.

From Friends of Forest View Cemetery Facebook:

Join us Saturday, November 10th from 9am-12pm to clean-up the cemetery! Be a part of historic preservation! We will be pulling ivy at its roots in a small manageable section, as well as removing newly uncovered trash and debris. Kristi from RVA Goats will be there! Please wear long pants and closed toed shoes. We will provide gloves and sleeve protection. Thank you and hope to see you there!

If you can’t be a physical presence you can be a financial one by donating here.
