The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities (DPU) has announced a call for entries in its third annual Storm Drain Art Project. Local artists 18 and older are invited to submit storm drain designs between now and May 6th at midnight.

This year’s theme is “You Are the Pollution Solution” to remind passersby of their roles in keeping our waterways clean. City of Richmond staff will choose four finalists to paint their art on storm drains in Richmond’s Carytown district in June.

“We’re looking for art that paints a picture of how important it is to keep our river–and our drinking water–clean,” a DPU spokesperson said in an email. “All four winning artists will be compensated with $400 for their time and work.”
