Kroger teaming up with Meals on Wheels to deliver Thanksgiving meals to 900 people across area today

This Thanksgiving, Kroger is teaming up with local foodbank FeedMore to cover the cost of a special Thanksgiving meal for nearly 900 seniors and homebound residents in the Meals on Wheels program. Kroger is also covering Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers’ gas by handing out Kroger Fuel gift cards.

Today, Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers will deliver the Thanksgiving meals to recipients on 94 routes across 14 localities throughout greater Richmond and the Tri-cities. Kroger’s donation will save FeedMore approximately $3,500. The Thanksgiving meal includes roast turkey and gravy, cornbread stuffing, honey glazed carrots, green beans amandine, a whole wheat roll, cranberry sauce, and apple-glazed carrot cake. For recipeints with specific dietary restrictions, the menu is adjusted to accommodate their nutritional requirements.

Additionally, to offset the cost of fuel and show thanks for their generosity, all 376 Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers during the week of Thanksgiving will receive a Kroger gift card.  The average Meals on Wheels driver follows a 13-mile route that takes roughly 55 minutes to complete. Kroger will provide each driver with a $10 Kroger gift card that can be redeemed at any of the grocer’s on-site gas stations.

Kroger has donated more than two million meals to FeedMore through a variety of initiatives since 2014.
