Bike-be-gone: City to remove inoperable and abandoned bikes next week
If your bike is chained up in front of your apartment and not in rideable shape, it might not be there after the 9th.
Have a bicycle that’s been hitched up to a city post for a while? You may want to move it sooner than later. Richmond Police will be removing inoperable and abandoned bikes in The Fan on November 9th.
Per Richmond ordinance, bikes must be tagged in advance of removal (3 days for inoperable, 10 days for operable). After that, removed bikes can be retrieved from RPD.
Bike Walk RVA has some additional handy tidbits for you.
- While we’re on the subject of parking bikes:
- It is illegal to lock bikes to city trees
- You should register your bike with the National Bike Registry
- It is NOT illegal to park bikes to city sign posts and poles as long as you don’t block the sidewalk
Bike racks can be requested to be installed on public right of way at http://www.richmondgov.com/bikeped, but they it can’t be guaranteed for all locations. Bike racks can always be installed on your own private property, and we’re happy to help you select the right one.
