Henrico soliciting input on expansion of transit at three upcoming public meetings

Each meeting will follow the same agenda and solicit feedback from the public on how the county should build out and expand its transit options over the coming years.

Henrico County and GRTC are hosting three meetings to solicit public for feedback and guidance as they consider improvements to their portion of the region’s transportation network, beginning this evening. The two entities will use this input to guide the conversation as plans are made to expand transit options in the Richmond metro area.

From the Henrico Citizen:

Should public transit service in Henrico be designed primarily to serve the people most likely to use it?

Or should it be available to a broad geographic portion of the county, even if many of those areas don’t produce many riders?

Those are among the questions Henrico County and Greater Richmond Transit Company officials are posing to citizens this month and next at a series of public meetings designed to solicit feedback about public transportation in the county.

Spurred in large part by the pending birth of GRTC’s “Pulse” bus rapid transit service – a dedicated bus service that will run 7.6 miles between Willow Lawn and Rocketts Landing, traveling partially on dedicated lanes – county officials want to evaluate what, if any, changes they should make to other transit service in Henrico, both short term and long term.

The evaluation process is necessitated by the Pulse implementation (expected by early spring) because that service will force changes to existing GRTC routes in Richmond, which in turn will impact some service in Henrico.

The meetings will take place at the following locations on these dates:

  • October 5th: Libbie Mill Library (2100 Libbie Lake East Street) in the Near West End
  • October 16th: Eastern Henrico Recreation Center (1440 N. Laburnum Avenue) in the East End
  • November 2nd: Tuckahoe Area Library (1901 Starling Drive) in the West End

Each meeting will run from 5:30 until 7:00 PM and will follow the same agenda.
