Fire, Flour & Fork announces full lineup of events for fourth edition, beginning November 2nd
Richmond’s gathering for the food curious returns November 2nd with a whole host of events, popups, speakers, and more.
Richmond’s gathering for the food-curious is back for more in year four with more behind-the-scenes tours, expert presentations, events for kids and parents, plus a bartender battle for the Dabney cup, collaborative lunches and dinners, and signature global dine-arounds.
“We’re going global with this year’s theme–globally inspired, locally made, ” says co-founder Maureen Egan. “We’ll marry Southern hospitality with a deeper exploration of food and drink from around the world here in Richmond and through our signature events, delving into cuisines from India, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Jamaica and Latin America, among many others.”
There will be a full day of talks and tastings on November 4th at The Valentine, with Prune chef and author Gabrielle Hamilton kicking off the festivities with a 10:00 AM talk and Q&A. It will be followed by cooking demonstrations, panel discussions, cocktail making from Belle Isle Moonshine, and more.
Fire, Flour & Fork will host a signature event each day of the long weekend. The full lineup, from the organizers, follows:
-
Thursday, November 2nd – The Third Annual Dabney Dinner: Restaurateurs and caterers honor the legacy of John Dabney, a renowned Richmond caterer, restaurateur and barman of the 19th century, in food, drink and story. The evening includes a new documentary premiere by filmmakers Field Studio that details Dabney’s remarkable life, and traces his talents through his multi-talented descendants. Our guest chef will be Jerome Grant from the National Museum of African American History and Culture’s Sweet Home cafe.
-
Friday, November 3rd – Smoke on the Water, a Global Barbecue: On the banks of the James, we’ll celebrate barbecue and grilling. From Korea to Jamaica, from Vietnam to the Philippines and places in between, belly up to the world, all in one place. We’ll even have a local world champion, Tuffy Stone, along with Autumn Olive Farms, Rob Newton and Carena Ives.
-
Saturday, November 4th – Carnaval Latino on Clay: Saturday evening, we will turn Clay Street and the grounds of the Valentine into a Latin-inspired carnival. Sample coffees, desserts, drinks, and, of course, dishes from Richmond’s Latin chefs, bakers and makers as well as visiting chefs. Rumba and salsa under the Clay Street tent, on the terrace and in the garden.
-
Sunday, November 5th – Take a road trip through the four corners of India Sunday afternoon, sampling Indian street foods and wines, under the helm of Lehja’s Sunny Baweja and his restaurant friends from Virginia and around the country, including Michelin-star chef Hemant Mathur and others. After we chaat, we’ll Bhangra!
In addition to the signature events, Fire, Flour & Fork will host lunches, dinners and brunches in local restaurants and unusual spaces. Confirmed attendees (with more being announced up through August 1st) include Kevin Gillespie of Gun Show, Joy Crump of FOODE and Mercantile, Scott Crawford of Crawford & Son, Ryan Smith of Staplehouse, and Chris Hastings of Hot & Hot Fish Club.
Noah Sandoval and his pastry chef Genie Kwon from Oriole are capping off the event with a Longoven popup on Sunday, November 5th. There will also be a lunch at Merroir with Dylan Fultineer and Gabrielle Hamilton, a look inside C.F. Sauer–celebrating its 130th anniversary–and a behind-the-scenes tour and tea at the Jefferson with a twist–tea-infused cocktails.
