Hanami Sushi in the Innsbrook Shoppes is closing its doors after three-and-a-half years in business, the restaurant’s owners announced on Facebook Tuesday. Friday, June 30th will be the last day of service.

The detailed Facebook explanation of the closure includes a multitude of reasons behind the decision, including the restaurant’s size and the health of the chef, Victor. It also hinted that the business may reopen in another location–and that Victor will likely resurface in the near future regardless.

We came to this decision for several reasons:

  1. Chef Victor has postponed, for two years, a required follow up surgery after his two month hospital stay in 2014. (For those that still remember, thank you again for all the love, support, and well wishes you had given us at that time!)
  2. Victor will be going back to Taiwan, his home country, for a short period of time since his 81-year-old mother, who lives alone without family close by, needs care. (And it has been 8 years since he has last seen her!)
  3. Different career aspirations for a couple of our family members.
  4. A desire to find a smaller, nearby location more suitable for the limited number of staff on hand.

We are very grateful for the (almost) six years of friendships we’ve built, all the unique, interesting people we’ve met, all the memories we’ve made, and all the smiling faces we’ve seen.

Please continue to follow our Facebook page for the most up-to-date information on Victor’s whereabouts after he returns from Taiwan, where to find his delicious sushi, and/or his future business locations.

Thank you for everything, our Hanami friends and family!
