RVA Beer Explorer

RVA Beer Explorer Weekly Picks

Pools open this weekend. Time to bust out the cans of beer and see if the swimsuit fits. Those two actions are in direct conflict with each other but what the hell, live on the edge Richmond.

Pools around the area are opening this weekend and I know many of you will head to your local watering hole. That’s not all that’s happening this weekend. There are, as always, a ton of beer related activities on tap in the area.

LET’S DO THIS

Yappy Hour Clear the RACC Shelter for Memorial Day! – Strangeways, Wednesday

I’m a big fan of dogs at breweries. I’m a sucker for a slobbery mess that’s not a human. As long as they’re socialized and don’t interfere with patrons getting beer into their beerholes, they should be welcomed. Strangeways is also very pro-dog and are working this weekend to find homes for a few canines.

There’s always room for one more! STRANGEWAYS BREWING is teaming up with Canine Adventure to help clear the shelter at Richmond Animal Care and Control for Memorial Day weekend.

Come meet some adoptable pups with RACC while munching on some yummy grub from a local food truck.

Not able to take on a pup for the weekend but still want to help? Grab a beer! 10% of ALL SALES from 6pm-close will go directly to RACCF.

Bring your non-aggressive pooches for pup and person social time and free treats. Of course, humans can still enjoy Sampler Specials all night. Mingle with a few RACC pups looking for their fur-ever home while you toast man (and woman’s) best friend. Cheers!

Summer Moon Music Festival – Center of the Universe, Saturday – Sunday

If you like beer with a side of music, you’re in luck this weekend. Thirteen bands take the state at Center of the Universe during the free Summer Moon Music Festival. Kids and dogs are welcome. Bands for Saturday are here, and for Sunday are here.

Center of the Universe is pleased to announce the 5th annual Summer Moon Music Festival taking place May 27th and 28th. This two day long festival features 13 local bands who will be battling it out for their charity of choice. To accompany the bands, there will be several food trucks on site. 3 different draft beer stations will be set up, so you won’t have to worry about lines to get a delicious cold one. Bring the whole family out to enjoy a day dedicated to local music, food, beer, and of course charities. This event is free to attend.

One Year Anniversary Celebration – Castleburg, Saturday

Many of my fellow Richmond beer heads have never been to Castleburg. That’s a shame because they have a solid stable of beers and are super friendly. If you haven’t been you should change that this weekend. If you’ve been there before swing by and wish them happy birthday.

We’re turning ONE!

Boy this past year flew by. We’d love it if you would help us celebrate our anniversary.

There are no tickets to buy, no lines to stand in, no sessions, just bring your butt out to the Castle and have some fun, drink some great craft beer and listen to some awesome music. Our celebration will be a continuation of what we’ve been doing all year long! Nothing fancy, nothing pretentious, just a nice relaxing atmosphere where you can be yourself.

Legend has always been a destination, or pit stop for bike riders. Centrally located, great view and massive deck make it a natural stop when out and about. This weekend, they’ve got a bit of organized bike fun.

Lucy’s Burger Pop-Up – Ardent, Sunday

I haven’t been to Lucy’s ins Jackson Ward so swung by their Facebook page to see if they had a picture of their burgers. I’m very burger curious. OMG. Look at this thing. It’s a work of art. They probably won’t be coming out camera ready at Ardent but if all the ingredients are there and the burger is cooked properly we could have a winner.

The long weekend means getting together, kicking back, and cooking out! On Sunday, May 28th, let Ardent and Lucy’s Restaurant take care of the burgers and beer.

The chefs at Lucy’s will feature three burgers:
â–· Steakhouse
â–· Nutty blue & bacon
â–· Traditional

All meat is grass fed and grain finished, and locally sourced from Monrovia Farm. Your burger comes with a side of either salad or chips.

We hope you’ll join us for a fun afternoon of craft beer and delicious food!

NEW BEER TO DRINK

My favorite beer in all of Richmond is Triple Crossing’s Clever Girl. My pick for this week is showing my bias. Head to Triple Crossing’s Fulton location for this Double Dry Hopped Clever Girl.

She’s more lethal than ever. Double citra and double mosaic for an even heavier hop punch. Available for the first time ever in cans, this Friday in Fulton, 5/26. 4x 4packs per person limit.
