Explore the world with a $2,000 travel scholarship from HI Richmond Hostel

If you’re a young person who’s got a case of wanderlust that’s a bit larger than your bank account, a returning program from Richmond’s first hostel could quite literally be your ticket to new and exciting experiences abroad.

Hostelling International’s Richmond location is offering five $2,000 travel scholarships in 2017 exclusively for Richmond area residents who attend school in or reside in the city of Richmond, Chesterfield County, Hanover County, or Henrico County.

The program is called Explore the World, and it’s administered by the nonprofit organization HI USA, whose mission it is to create a more tolerant world and provide scholarships for young travelers who are inspired to make the world a better place, but lack the financial means to go abroad.

The scholarship is open to individuals ages 18-30 who will engage in an educational or service learning component during their trip.  Eligible candidates must also meet specific financial need requirements.

If you’d like to learn more about this program and hear from last year’s winners, they’ll share their stories on Thursday, January 26th at HI Richmond Hostel, located at 7 N. 2nd Street. The program begins at 7:00 PM and light refreshments will be provided.

The application deadline for 2017 scholarships is March 15th.
