Kroger will hold two hiring events this week in an effort to fill more than 200 available positions, the company announced in a release. The first will be held on Thursday, October 20th from 3:00 – 7:00 PM and the second on Saturday, October 22nd from 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Both events will be held at the Kroger Training Center located at 2235 Staples Mill Road in the West End.

The hiring events come as rival Martin’s plans to shutter stores in phases as they are converted to Publix stores–meaning all employees will be laid off. Appointments are not needed. Interested applicants can arrive at their convenience to speak with hiring officials.

All Richmond-area Kroger stores are currently hiring, and openings include positions in the deli, grocery, bakery, meat department and pharmacy. Cashiers and baggers are also needed.

“We decided to hold this event to help those who will be affected by upcoming grocery store layoffs in Richmond,” said Allison McGee, spokesperson for Kroger Mid-Atlantic. “People will be looking for employment and we’re in a position to solve that problem they’re facing. On top of that, we offer competitive compensation and excellent benefits with the opportunity to advance in one of America’s largest companies.”

Applicants for the co-manager positions should have an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree or previous comparable retail management experience.

Those interested can apply online at jobs.kroger.com. After completing the application and assessment, applicants are asked to attend the hiring event.
