South of the James Farmers Market Moving to Bryan Park Temporarily (We Think)
South of the James Farmers Market is moving North to better weather the COVID-19 storm.
South of the James switched to a drive-thru model in the wake of Covid-19. That’s not the only change the region’s most popular farmers market is being forced to make.
GrowRVA announced on Twitter this morning and Facebook last night that they’re moving to Bryan park effective this weekend.
Due to circumstances beyond our control and COVID 19, the GrowRVA SOJ Market has been forced to relocate to Bryan Park. Please continue to support our farmers and their families provide safe, healthy food to the Richmond community!
The market will still be a drive-thru from 8 am to 10 am (last cars thru at 9:45 am) and Walk Thru from 10 am to 12 pm. Market goers will need to check out the vendors’ individual pages for ordering information and item availability. Most vendors are posting their information on the SOTJ Facebook page and at Grow RVA.
Make sure and read the full rules for the new market because they’re bound to cause some confusion the first day. These rules are posted at Grow RVA. More information on the market is expected to be posted later today.
- 8 am – 10 am, drive-thru traffic, PRE-ORDERS ONLY. NO, GRAB AND GO.
- Cutoff for cars in line for drive-thru, 9:45 am.
- 10 am – Noon walk-thru with a controlled number of customers monitored by RMC and Police; this provides food accessibility for all.
- There will be no children or dogs allowed in the market area.
- Please contact vendors individually; implementation of online system later in May. Let’s work together during these uncertain times.
- Customers are advised to shop as individuals not in groups as much as possible.
- Customers are required to wear a face cover; gloves optional.
- There will be no eating or drinking in the market area.
- Socializing will not be allowed.
One of our favorite vendors Two and a Half Irishmen (wonderful bakery) mentions on their Facebook that the move is temporary. We’ve got an email into GROW RVA and will post more details when we get them.
Update 5/5/20: The official statement from Grow RVA is “The move is until further notice.”
