March Mindfulness brings free classical performances and meditation to 1708 Gallery
“We are thrilled to partner with Classical Revolution RVA and 1708 Gallery for this series,” said Rachel Douglas, executive director of Chrysalis Institute. “Mindfulness is an ages-old practice that brings awareness to your life. What better way to enjoy the beauty of classical music than through this whole body experience.”
Classical Revolution RVA, a nonprofit dedicated to integrating classical music with Richmond’s music scene, is pleased to announce the recent launch of March Mindfulness, a series of free classical performances that incorporates a heightened sense of awareness through meditation. The series is being held at 1708 Gallery (319 W. Broad St.) each Wednesday during the month of March from 12 pm to 12:30 pm. The event is free to the public.
Chrysalis Institute, a nonprofit in Carytown devoted to encouraging personal growth and well-being, and 1708 Gallery are partnering with Classical Revolution RVA to put on the event.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to view 1708 Gallery’s current exhibition, Rudy Shepherd: We are all Trayvon Martin. Shepherd’s paintings investigate current events like deceased pop culture icons, politicians and criminals and victims of crime.
“This program resonates extremely well with our current exhibition,” said Emily Smith of 1708 Gallery. “We’re glad to partner with Classical Revolution RVA and host its March Mindfulness program for the public.”
The program launched on March 1 with a performance by cellist, Schuyler Slack. Here is a schedule of this month’s performances:
March 8 – Brandon Simmons, flute
March 15 – Ayca Kartari, double bass
March 22 – Ellen Cockerham Riccio, violin
March 29 – Kimberly Ryan, viola“I find the music of J.S. Bach to be very centering,” said Ellen Cockerham Riccio, Executive Director of Classical Revolution RVA. “No matter what is going on around us, we can find peace and stillness within ourselves, and music helps me find that inner strength. I wanted to create an opportunity for others to have that same experience.”
