A trash problem at Ashton Square

Trash and debris piled up outside creates an eyesore and health hazard.

Neighborhood resident Deborah F. sent the following message about ongoing issues with Ashton Square located at 603-A Westover Hills Blvd.

Ashton Square has undergone another change in management. The new service provider is Ross Companies, which bills itself online as a “premier owner, renovator and manager of multifamily assets in the Mid-Atlantic region since 1983”. The good news is that Ross Companies are renovating apartments as they become vacant, a sorely needed service. The bad news is that when the commercial dumpster overflows (or is simply, not present), workmen have been directed to just dump any abandoned furnishings, such as mattresses and couches, directly onto the asphalt in the back parking lot, next to the little bridge over Reedy Creek. (I was advised of this practice by an on-site contractor.)

Not surprisingly, this perpetual eyesore only encourages the tenants to add to the problem. While I was talking with the contractor we both saw a tenant wheel out a large armchair and add it to the dump pile.

The complex is also beginning to be tagged with graffiti. While this is not their direct fault, it should be promptly dealt with.

I contacted Parker Agelasto about the trash and graffiti since Ashton Square falls in his district; he has promised to follow up on my SCF submission with the city. I’m not feeling all that optimistic about resolution, however, since Parker didn’t even know that Ashton Square management had changed. That tells me he hasn’t been following up on other reported problems at the apartments, such as a different dumpster that must be moved because it violates code to place a dumpster directly over a storm drain.
