One of Richmond’s most well-known stops on the Tacky Light Tour is preparing for its final season. The homeowners behind the popular display announced on Facebook that this year will mark the end of a 27-year run, citing the toll of time and effort that goes into setting up the massive light show.

“Here we go again! We are now decorating for our 27th and final Christmas season. Yes, this is it! Father Time has caught up and we’ve made the difficult decision to shut down after this season. It’s been a great run of 27 years and we thank each of you for your support. Hope to see you this Christmas,” the post reads.

The home has long been a highlight of the Richmond-area Tacky Light Tour, a holiday tradition that draws visitors from across Virginia and beyond to admire extravagant, over-the-top decorations. The annual tour is so popular that it regularly causes traffic jams as thousands of cars line up to catch a glimpse of some of the most dazzling light displays in the region.

For nearly three decades, the display has been part of that holiday ritual, earning a spot among the community’s favorite destinations. Families have returned year after year to see the glowing spectacle, often making it part of their holiday traditions.

While the owners didn’t cite a specific reason beyond the passage of time, many similar displays around the area have noted the increasing physical and financial demands of maintaining such large-scale decorations. In Richmond, some homes have put up more than 180,000 lights and hundreds of inflatables, requiring weeks of preparation.

Visitors will have one final chance this season to see the display lit up before it goes dark for good. The homeowners encouraged fans of the lights to make the trip this Christmas to say goodbye in person.
