The Virginia Division of Capitol Police has added a new member to its K-9 Unit. Titan, a 2.8-year-old Belgian Malinois-Shepherd mix, officially joined the agency and will begin training on Monday, May 27, with trainer Sean Chaulkin.

Titan’s previous service included work overseas as an explosives detection dog. He’ll now team up with Officer Light as his handler. Once his training is complete, Titan will become the second active canine on the force, joining Kayce, another Belgian Malinois.

Titan is the 13th dog to serve with the Division since the K-9 program was established in December 2000. The Division’s K-9 Unit is certified by the Virginia Police Work Dog Association, and the dogs primarily support safety operations in and around the Virginia State Capitol complex.

“Police K-9 handlers and their K-9 partners play an essential role in creating a safe and secure environment for our visitors, stakeholders, and elected officials here at the Capitol and the surrounding area,” said Col. McKee, chief of the Capitol Police. He added that Titan appears eager to work and embodies the Division’s values of devotion, character, and professionalism.
