Dr. Danny Avula sworn in as Richmond’s 81st mayor
“I’m incredibly humbled by this opportunity and excited to get to work! Thank you, Richmond, for putting your trust in me, and I promise that I will do everything possible, work as hard as I can, and do whatever it takes to make Richmond a place where everyone can thrive.”
On December 31, 2024 at 1:00 PM, in a private swearing-in at his home with the City Clerk and his family, Dr. Danny Avula took the official oath of office to become Richmond’s 81st mayor.
“I’m incredibly humbled by this opportunity and excited to get to work! Thank you, Richmond, for putting your trust in me, and I promise that I will do everything possible, work as hard as I can, and do whatever it takes to make Richmond a place where everyone can thrive. It’s going to take all of us, and I can’t wait to start working together,” said Danny.
Danny’s ceremonial swearing-in will take place on January 11 at 9 a.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School (a free event, but registration required). Residents are encouraged to participate in one of many services projects throughout the day (sign up here). A ticketed celebration at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts will close out Inauguration Day (tickets available here).
