Get Inside the Pump House with the Pump House Photo Contest
Friends of the Pump House have the daunting task of working to restore, maintain in the short term, the Pump House. Located just above the James River and sitting between two historic canals the Pump House once served as a gathering spot for the people of Richmond and provided water for Richmond. They’re hosting a photo contest on April 10th and 17th. It’s a great way to see the inside and help restoration efforts. Check out some photos of the Pump House to give you an idea of what you’ll see inside.
The Friends of Pump House are holding a photography contest! We are hosting two days of photography sessions for photographers to take photos inside the Pump House. While the inside of the Pump House offers an interesting space for photographs, these are not the only photos that will be accepted into the contest. We are accepting any and all photos of the Pump House, whether they be of the outside or inside of the Pump House. Photography sessions are 30 minutes long for 3 hours/day, open to 10 people, and we are limiting equipment to a tripod and camera only. All visitors inside the Pump House need to wear a hard hat (provided by the Friends of Pump House) and a mask.
There is a recommended donation of $15, however any greater amount will be gratefully accepted and get us closer to reaching our fundraising goal of $3,000 for 1 window restoration!
The winner will be announced on May 1st during our Instagram live Springfest, a fundraising event where dancers will be utilizing the Pump House’s pavilion as their dance space, accompanied by a musician. Everyone is welcome to join in from 2:00-3:00 ET on our Instagram page @PumpHousePark.
The winner of the photo contest will be chosen BY THE MAYOR of Richmond and have their photograph posted on all of Friends of Pump House’s social media, the City of Richmond Parks and Rec’s social media page, and the James River Park’s social media, and posted on our kiosk. The winner will also win a free private 2 hour photography session in and around the Pump House and be able to bring 2 friends. All photographs will be credited to the photographers if used in social media posts or in the future.

Full disclosure – I’m an active member of the Friends of the Pump House but not in charge of this particular effort. I do love taking pictures of the building.
