St. Mary’s Hospital hosting upcoming blood drives to address emergency shortage

Unfortunately, fewer blood donors step up every year. As a result, the state of Virginia is now under an Emergency Appeal. This means that the Red Cross is simply not able to supply the needed blood products to the hospitals fast enough.

Did you know that only three out of every 100 people donate blood? Unfortunately, fewer blood donors step up every year. As a result, the state of Virginia is now under an Emergency Appeal. This means that the Red Cross is simply not able to supply the needed blood products to the hospitals fast enough.

The Red Cross is the sole blood provider to all local Richmond hospitals including Bon Secours, so Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital is helping fill the missing types through blood donation. Donations are crucial to support patients’ ongoing needs as well as unforeseen trauma situations.

The most needed types are A, B, O, and AB. The drives will take place between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM on August 20th and 21st at St. Mary’s Hospital, located at 5801 Bremo Road in the West End.
