On Saturday afternoon, the Richmond City Democratic Committee announced that Colette McEachin won the party’s 2019 nomination for Commonwealth’s Attorney. The special primary to select a nominee took place over two days where more than 2,500 Richmond Democrats voted. McEachin received 2,115 votes and Alexander L. Taylor, Jr. garnered 429 votes.
“Congratulations to Colette McEachin for winning the Democratic nomination today,” Jim Nolan, chair of the Richmond City Democratic Committee, said in a prepared statement. “We are grateful for your commitment to reform our criminal justice system and pursue alternatives to incarceration. Working together with community leaders, I know we can create a more equitable justice system for all Richmonders.”
