Ukrop’s opening food hall in West End, marking return of grocer’s fried chicken, pizza, paninis, other favorites

Ukrop’s insists this does not mark the company’s return to the Richmond grocery market, but is rather meant to offer prepared foods and other favorites that were once served in its stores including its fried chicken, potato wedges, paninis, pizza, and more.

Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods is bringing back some of Richmond’s favorite prepared foods from the bygone days of Ukrop’s grocery stores. The company plans to open what it describes as a food hall at the corner of Patterson Avenue and Horsepen Road in the Near West End sometime next year.

Ukrop’s insists this does not mark the company’s return to the Richmond grocery market, but is rather meant to offer prepared foods and other favorites that were once served in its stores including its fried chicken, potato wedges, paninis, pizza, and more.

“We hope it will be a fun and dynamic place where people can gather and enjoy great-tasting Ukrop’s foods,” Ukrop’s said in a Facebook post on Thursday. “It will also be a location where we can be innovative and creative, introducing and testing new foods.”

Construction of the food hall is dependent on zoning approval, which Ukrop’s is currently pursuing.
