Grab your flannel and head to the Science Museum of Virginia for their Tribute to Grunge
Adults-Only Science on Tap: Tribute to Grunge hits the museum this Thursday.
I went to college in the late eighties in Olympia, WA, in the heart of grunge country. I don’t remember a lot but I do remember lots of flannel, trips to the Army-Navy surplus, music that was awesome at the time, and poor skateboarding on my part. The Science Museum of Virginia wants to help everyone relive all the good parts of the past and learn a little something along the way.
What:
Science on Tap is back for round two, attempt two. After having to reschedule the September date because of Hurricane Florence, the Science Museum of Virginia will now explore Grunge’s connection to some seriously fun science on Nov. 1.The event includes the same activities as originally planned: a Black Hole Sun astronomy show, Pearl Jam oyster science, a Smells Like Teen Spirit sniffer challenge, a Soundgarden music lab demo, Smashing Pumpkins gourd launching and Rock the Vote: Campaign Supernova presentations. The evening ends with a performance from Pilots N’ Pearls at 9 p.m.
Flannel shirts, ripped jeans and Doc Martens are encouraged for this Tribute to Grunge!
Who:
Modeled after the Museum’s popular Science After Dark series, 20 and 30 somethings can spend an evening exploring the exhibits and enjoying the special activities. But unlike those events, no guests under 21 will be around, the content will be for mature audiences only and everything can be enjoyed with alcohol in hand.Belle Isle Moonshine will be offering Red Rooster and Feel the Pain cocktails, there will be a special small-batch beer created exclusively for the Museum by Garden Grove Brewing and Growlers to Go will be on the back lawn with eight taps. Go Go Vegan Go, Sammich and Happy Empanada are bringing good eats to fill guests’ bellies.
Why:
Just because you’re an adult, doesn’t mean you can’t discover something new! The Science on Tap series inspires grownups to have a good time at the Museum while deepening their connection to the science all around them. When:
Thursday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 10 p.m.How:
Tickets for Science on Tap: Tribute to Grunge are $10 for the general public and $8.50 for members. Food and drink must be purchased separately. For more information, visit www.smv.org. Science on Tap is presented by WestRock.
