State Fair of Virginia at Meadow Event Park – The State Fair of Virginia kicks off at The Meadow Event Park Friday evening. A rite of passage of fall, it’s one of Central Virginia’s most popular events. The fair runs through Sunday, October 7th and opens at 10:00 AM each day. The midway opens an hour later at 11:00 AM. Enjoy a wide variety of midway rides, any kind of crazy fried foods you can think of, live music at the fair’s concert series, and much more. Festival of India at the Greater Richmond Convention Center – Get a taste of the food, culture, and music of India at the 37th annual Festival of India Saturday, September 29th through Sunday, September 30th at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Beard & Mustache Competition at The National – The beards (and mustaches) are back. The North American Competitive Beard and Mustache Alliance, working with member club RVA Beard League, are presenting the 2018 Great American Beard and Mustache Championship at The National this Saturday, September 29th. Doors open at 1:00 PM and the championship starts at 3:00 PM. Proceeds go to local charities. Competitor tickets are $35; spectator tickets are $15. Tickets can be purchased online here.
Richmond Dog Festival in Shockoe Bottom – The Richmond Dog Festival makes its debut in Shockoe Bottom around the 17th Street Market this Saturday. The festival is free and open to the public, and it will run from noon until 6:00 PM. Dog lovers, dog owners, and dogs alike can find over 35 vendors who work to better the lives of the dog community, food trucks, craft beer, live music by Andrew Alli and the Mainline, and exciting demonstrations from the Richmond Police K9 Unit and more. Party on the Avenues in Westhampton – Party on the Avenues, an annual street festival in the heart of Westhampton at Libbie and Patterson Avenues, takes place this Sunday. Expect lots of local food, craft beer, local vendors, and family-friendly entertainment all afternoon. The festival, which brought in about 10,000 attendees in 2017, kicks off at noon and this year features 20 artists from around Richmond who will be painting scenes of the neighborhood during the festival in a Plein Air event.
