Salvation Army opens new Family Store in West End to support substance abuse recovery programs
The 10,000 square foot store features value-priced items sourced from donations over the past three months previously not shown in other area stores.
The Salvation Army of Central Virginia opened a new Salvation Army Family Store at 7494 West Broad Street this past Saturday, August 18th. The 10,000 square foot store features value-priced items sourced from donations over the past three months previously not shown in other area stores.
For over 100 years, The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Centers and Harbor Light Programs have offered spiritual, emotional, and social assistance to those who have lost the ability to cope with their problems and provide for themselves. These free programs provide housing, food, counseling, community, and employment as we work to treat the symptoms, and ultimately the root causes, of prolonged alcohol and drug dependence.
In Richmond, The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center offers a six-month minimum substance abuse and work therapy program out of their 100-bed facility on Hermitage Road in Richmond. Donations of used clothing, furniture, and household items are received, sorted, refurbished, priced and distributed to the Family Stores by men in the program. Proceeds from Family Store sales are used exclusively to fund the ARC program, shelter and counseling services. The Salvation Army also collects, and auctions donated automobiles to support this program.
“We are so excited for this store and what it will mean for our program in Central Virginia,” said Major Mike Morton, Administrator of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. “Not only will this store offer great value on thousands of new and gently used items, but it will help us carry out of work of serving men recovering from substance abuse.
The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center operates two other stores in the Richmond area at 11000 Midlothian Turnpike and 2601 Hermitage Road.
