Three opportunities in July to help shape Henrico Schools’ diversity and equity efforts

Your participation and input will help shape programs that will increase diversity and inclusion system-wide.

If you want to contribute to Henrico Schools’ equity and diversity efforts, there are three opportunities to do so in July. HCPS’ Department of Equity and Diversity is holding three opportunity meetings this month.

Here’s what you can do and when it all takes place:

  • Help create a manual on monthly diversity recognition to give school leaders guidance on the best ways to recognize marginalized groups. The manual will include six nationally recognized heritage months: Black History Month, Hispanic-Latino History Month, Women’s History Month, Asian History Month and National American Indian History Month. July 16 from 4-6 p.m., Henrico County Public Schools Central Office (Community Room), 3820 Nine Mile Road, Henrico, Va.
  • Give your input on multicultural books being considered for incorporation into middle and high school courses for 2018-19. Open to students and adults. July 18 from 3:30-4:30 p.m., Henrico County Public Schools Central Office (Multipurpose Room), 3820 Nine Mile Road, Henrico, Va.
  • Provide input on the creation of a religious sensitivity support document aimed at helping inform school leaders.
July 18 from 5-6 p.m., Henrico County Public Schools Central Office (Multipurpose Room), 3820 Nine Mile Road, Henrico, Va.

Those with questions are asked to contact Monica Manns, director of the HCPS Department of Equity and Diversity, at 804.652.3845. You can learn more online here.
