Young man dies after being struck by branch

Last night’s storm was deadly for a 22-year-old who was outside at the time.

Local news outlets are reporting that a 22-year-old male has died of cardiac arrest after being hit by a branch during last night’s storm.

From NBC12:

It was just before 5 p.m. Thursday, at the height of a severe thunderstorm which prompted NBC12 to issue a First Alert Weather Day. Two people were walking in the park when a tree fell to the ground – hitting a hiker in the head. The man died.

NBC12 is reporting the incident as occurring in Pump House Park. ABC8 and CBS6 are reporting the incident as in or near Byrd Park. The ambulance and rescue crews were officially called to 1700 block of Pumphouse Drive at 4:50 PM
