Schedule of events, road closures, and bus route changes for the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K

Whether you’re running in the race, just spectating and enjoying the festivities, or looking to avoid the chaos altogether, we’ve got everything you need to know to navigate this huge annual event that pierces the Fan.

With over 25,000 runners and walkers registered to participate, the 19th annual Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by Kroger is set for Saturday, April 14.

The event is the fourth largest 10k road race in the country and one of the top 15 largest races of any distance. The Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k will again serve as the Collegiate Running Association 10k Road Race National Championship, with several thousand collegiate runners participating in the race.

Packet pick-up and walk-up registration for the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k and Virginia529 Kids Run is available at the TowneBank Health and Fitness Expo, held at the Richmond Raceway Exhibit Hall (600 E. Laburnum Ave Richmond, VA 23222), on Thursday, April 12 from 3:00pm-9:00pm and Friday, April 13 from 11:00a.m.-9:00 p.m. Free parking is available at the expo. All registered participants must pick up their packets at the expo. There is no race-day packet pick up. Participants may also walk up and register on race day at the Siegel Center, adjacent to the start line, from 7:00am-10:00am.

11 a.m. – 9 p.m. – TowneBank Health and Fitness Expo/Packet Pick-Up at the Richmond Raceway

3:00 p.m. – Bart Yasso Book Signing/Meet and Greet

Saturday, April 14th:

6:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. – Race Day Shuttle Service (Advance ticket required)

7 a.m. – 10 a.m. – On-site walk up registration (no packet pick-up) at the Siegel Center

7 a.m. – 10 a.m. – Times-Dispatch Dress Up & Run Contest check-in (north side of Broad Street, near Shafer Street and Start Line)

7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. – Bike Valet service available on Laurel Street across from Altria Theater

7:30 a.m. – Blessing of the Runners at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart

7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Bag Check available on Laurel Street across from Altria Theater

8:00 a.m. – Virginia529 Kids Run starts on Park Avenue near Harrison Street

8:30 a.m. – Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k START – in waves at Broad & Harrison

9 a.m. – 1 p.m. – SUBWAY Post Race Festival on Laurel Street and S. Cathedral Place/Floyd Ave.

10:00 a.m. – Awards Ceremony on main stage in post-race festival, near Harrison & Linden

Road closures

Numerous road closures and “No Parking” zones will be in effect beginning Thursday.

Events begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 14 with the Virginia 529 Kids Run followed by the start of the Monument Avenue 10K at 8:30 a.m. Street closures and “No Parking” zones go into on beginning tomorrow at North Laurel Street between West Franklin Street and Cathedral Place. Cars parked along the race course will be towed. A complete list of times and dates are attached.

During the event, Monument Avenue will be closed between Stuart Circle and Staples Mill Road. Portions of other main streets will also be closed, including West Broad Street, West Grace Street, West Franklin Street and Lombardy Street. GRTC bus route changes

Many GRTC routes will be on detours until Saturday afternoon, April 14, 2018 during the Monument Avenue 10K. Expect some service delays. GRTC will resume regular routing as soon as the Richmond Police Department clears roads for service.

Detours:

All routes traveling westbound on Grace Street will detour north onto Belvidere Street, turn west onto Leigh Street, then south onto Allen Avenue, then west onto Broad Street and return to regular routing.

All routes traveling eastbound on Broad Street will detour north onto Allen Avenue, turn east onto Leigh Street, then south onto Belvidere Street, then east onto Franklin Street and return to regular routing traveling east.

  • 1-MONUMENT (WESTBOUND): continue on Broad Street to left on Willow Lawn Drive to Monument Avenue to regular route.
  • 1-MONUMENT (EASTBOUND): Via Monument Avenue to left on Willow Lawn Drive to right on Broad Street to regular route.
  • 2-PATTERSON (WESTBOUND): continue on Broad Street to left on Hamilton Street and merge left to take 195-S exit Grove Avenue (circle right) to Hamilton Street to left on Patterson Avenue and regular route.
  • 2-PATTERSON (EASTBOUND): Via Patterson Avenue to left on Thompson Street and merge left to take 195-N exit to Broad Street to right on Roseneath Road to left on Marshall Street to right on Altamont Ave to left on Broad Street/Sheppard Street and regular route.
  • 3 & 4 ROBINSON (EASTBOUND): North on Robinson Street to left on Kensington Avenue to right on Thompson Street and merge left to take 195–N exit Broad Street to right on Roseneath Road to left on Marshall Street to right on Altamont Ave to left on Broad Street/Sheppard Street and regular route.
  • 3 & 4 ROBINSON (WESTBOUND): West on Broad Street to left on Hamilton Street and merge left to take 195-S exit Grove Avenue (circle right) to Hamilton Street to right on Patterson Avenue merge to Kensington Avenue to right on Robinson Street and regular route.
  • 10-RIVERVIEW (EASTBOUND): Via Harrison Street to right on Cary Street to left on Belvidere Street to right on Broad Street and regular route.
  • 10-RIVERVIEW (WESTBOUND): Via Grace Street to left on Belvidere Street to right on Cumberland Street to left on Harrison Street and regular route.
  • 21 – BROOK (EASTBOUND): Via Harrison Street to left on Marshall Street to right on Belvidere Street to left on Franklin Street and regular route.
  • 21 – BROOK (WESTBOUND): Via Grace Street to right on Belvidere Street to left on Leigh Street to left on Lombardy Street and regular route.
  • 70 & 71 – FOREST HILL (WESTBOUND): Via Canal Street to right on 4th Street to left on Main Street to left on Belvidere Street to regular route. (Southbound)
  • 70 & 71 – FOREST HILL (EASTBOUND): Via Byrd Street, continue on Byrd to left on 4th Street and regular route. (Northbound)
