Good afternoon faithful Wrap readers, and welcome to the first edition of 2018. As we slowly come out of the doldrums of winter, we’re back at it and have lots to get to, so let’s get started, shall we?
Since we last talked, we’ve got a new Governor and Lieutenant Governor as Ralph Northam and Justin Fairfax were sworn into office, respectively, at the inauguration at the Capitol last Saturday. The cold didn’t keep folks away from the festivities. We’ve got a full recap of the day’s events if you missed out right here.
With the new administration comes a new General Assembly session, which began this week. Our reporters at the Capitol News Service have been hard at work covering the bills and pending legislation making their way through the halls of the Capitol. Here are some subjects they’ve touched on so far:
- Northam outlined his priorities and shared a message of hope and diversity in GA address
- Gerrymandering may soon be a thing of the past if one bill has anything to say about it
- Advocates for marijuana legalization in the Commonwealth will lobby the GA this weekend
Five things to know
- The Women’s March RVA is tomorrow in Carytown. Here’s how you can participate.
- Parking should now be a little easier at the Staples Mill Amtrak station now that the first phase of a project to expand the lot is complete.
- You can help Henrico County Public Schools shape their future by joining a committee.
- There’s a restaurant in the Fan that is seeking a legit exorcism. Uh, yeah.
- A bunch of upgrades are planned for The Diamond in advance of this year’s Richmond Flying Squirrels season.
Until next time,
