GO DO THIS

RVA Green Drinks – Väsen Brewing Company, Thursday

Green Drinks is a simple, unstructured event where people interested in sustainability can get together to network, talk shop, learn, and share. This week they’re teaming up with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation at Väsen to drink a beer and talk about the bay.

Fancy Me Mad, Tales from Edgar Allan Poe and graveyard tours – St. John’s Church & Triple Crossing

It’s rare that you get to drink beer at church. It’s even rarer when you can do it legally while hearing tales from one of Richmond’s most famous spooky authors.

St. John’s Church Foundation and the Poe Museum Present Fancy Me Mad, our fall fundraiser event honoring the spirits of the season, All Hallow’s Eve, as well as master storyteller, Edgar Allan Poe. Please join us for a ghostly Graveyard tour, followed by tales from Mr. Poe himself.

Refreshments available! Triple Crossing beer will be on sale in the Parish Hall. Happy Empanadas food truck will be parked on 24th street.

An evening of fright — for you! if you dare;
For spirits come alive, and welcome you here.
When the gates swing wide, and you enter in,
These ghosts will confess… Buyer Beware!
The spirits expected to appear include Eliza Poe, mother of Edgar AllanPoe; George Wythe and his murderous nephew; Benedict Arnold; a Confederate Soldier; a victim of the 1811 Theater Fire, and many more! There will be 2 seatings of Poe’s story-telling in the church.

Hardwood Turns Six – Hardywood, Saturday

The brewery that many give credit for kick-starting Richmond’s craft beer scene turns six. Six years of Gingerbread Stout and so much more. The party takes place on Saturday. All the fun you’d expect will be there including food, music, arts & crafts, and of course a special beer.

This hoppy imperial milk stout is brewed with coffee and coconut and aged one year in bourbon barrels. Sweet from the start, with a hint of hoppy bitterness, our 6th Anniversary Stout commemorates six years of growth with reverence for the moments that challenged us the most. 13% ABV. Available on draft and in 750mL bottles. (Approx. 175 cases)

BEER NEWS

VIRGINIANS LAUNCH VÄSEN, A BREWERY THAT HONORS SWEDISH HERITAGE – Umgas Magazine

You’ll be forgiven if you’ve never heard of Umgas Magazine which bills itself as a “Swedish-American Gathering Place”. Unless you’re Swedish-American, then you have no excuse. A look at Väsen Brewing Company’s roots and we find a bit of Sweden.

It was during their stay with the Sami people that inspired their ideas for the brand.

“[The Sami] were reindeer herders by trade, and as you can see, we have a lot of caribou incorporated into the décor and on a lot of our packaging,” Winters said.

As for the name, it was a friend in Sweden who recommended the term Väsen because it went along with the outdoor focus and the branding principles they wanted to live by.

Hazed DIPA: Dominion Cup Gold Medal Winner – Final Gravity, Friday

Pro-Am winners Justin Vaughn and Jess Chapman not only took home the gold medal for their Double IPA at the 2017 JRHB DOMINION CUP HOMEBREW COMPETITION, but Tony hand-picked them to brew this one of a kind DIPA right here in the Final Gravity brewhouse. They drove all the way up from South Carolina to bring you a hazy, full bodied Double IPA brewed with a blend of Golden Promise and Pilsner malt with a generous amount of flaked oats. It’s hopped up with Citra, Denali, El Dorado, and Galaxy and you’ll easily taste how it earned it’s first place prize.

Lockout Series – Valhalla DIPA Can Release – Triple Crossing, Friday

One of the fan favorites in the Lockout Series, Valhalla, will be returning this Friday in Fulton. Valhalla is a 100% intensely hopped Citra DIPA. Big notes of orange zest and grapefruit come splashing out of this beer.

Imperial Milk Stout – Ardent, Thursday

The Ardent Imperial Milk Stout is bold and rich, featuring notes of chocolate and residual sweetness from the addition of lactose, balanced by a roasty base. This big, dark stout is silky smooth, with none of the boozy burn you might expect from a 10% stout. Perfect for cooler weather and longer nights.

Déjà Voodoo Stout Release – Twisted Ales Craft Brewery, Sunday
