Väsen Brewing Company set to open production facility and taproom in Scott’s Addition July 29th

Väsen Brewing Company, the newest of Richmond’s craft breweries, will unveil its taproom and production facility at an official grand opening on July 29th, the brewery announced this week. Väsen will debut five varieties of its Belgian-inspired lineup. New Madrid will perform during the opening event, while Goatocado and Rappahannock Oyster Company will provide food.
Väsen’s journey to brewing began three years ago when owners Joey Darragh and Tony Giordano set out to create one of the nation’s most sustainable breweries, which was also capable of combining the experimental spirit that defines American craft beer with the rustic flavors of Belgian farmhouse and sour ales.
“The Swedish word ‘väsen’ honors our Scandinavian heritage and translates as one’s inner essence,” said Nathan Winters, Väsen’s marketing and environmental director. “At Väsen Brewing Company, brewing is about creating and appreciating something greater than yourself. We brew to inspire others to chase the things they love.”
Inside the recently renovated HandCraft Building, Väsen Brewing Company has developed a distinctive brewing process that produces what the brewers hope will be balanced, sessionable beers. In addition to a signature barrel-aging program, the brewery will offer a variety of saisons, wheat beers, and pale ales that can be enjoyed inside its Hyperborium taproom. To create unconventional ales that celebrate its passion for the environment, Väsen has built a 17,000-square-foot facility, which uses science-based metrics to track its ecological responsibility and the brewery’s sustainability.
By working hand-in-hand with Virginia farmers and energy producers, Väsen will rely on a local supply chain and strive to achieve sustainable brewing with 100 percent reuse and recycling of the resources used to make its beer.
“Väsen is passionate about pushing the industry forward by using an innovative approach to brewing,” said Winters. “Our legacy will be built on the sustainability practices we create for generations to come.”
Väsen Brewing Company will be located at 3331 Moore Street in Scott’s Addition.
