A taste of food history at 3410 Semmes Avenue

Where Laura Lee’s now sits has a long history of restaurants and treats to eat.

John Murden of Church Hill People News provided the scans giving a look into the history of the Laura Lee’s spot. John is married to Kendra Feather owner of Laura Lee’s so checking into the history of the spot is a natural for the local journalist.  Since we’re talking restaurants, a quick plug for Garnett’s at the Valentine which John is running and makes a fine sandwich.

Look’s you could have swung by Anthony’s for a nice adult beverage and even take one home with you. They had their ABC On/Off license.

The detail I like best about Forest Hill Confectionery is the “complete line of school supplies and also maintains a lending library”. History repeats since the block now hosts a Little Free Library.

The Gallery went through the owners. Three different owners in four years. I was in high school when this article came out. Where burgers really $3.75 back then?

Be sure to check out the sidebar of Recent, recommended. A little blurb on Mandarin Palace and Epicurean. Epicurean’s address is listed at 5007 Forest Hill Avenue which would put it somewhere between the current CVS and Carpet Cuts.

Just a quick reminder of what the Laura Lee’s spot looks like now.
