Friday

Galactic and Future Prospect jam out on Brown’s Island – Richmond favorites Future Prospect will take to the stage at Brown’s Island Friday evening for the second-to-last installment of the 2017 Friday Cheers outdoor concert series. They’ll be joined by headliners Galactic, a quintet hailing from New Orleans who seamlessly blend jazz, hip-hop, rock, and more for a fun evening of live music that will keep you dancing all night. Tickets are $10 at the door. Read our show preview here.

Saturday

Eat your veggies at the Richmond Vegetarian Festival at Bryan Park – The Richmond Vegetarian Festival is this Saturday, June 24th from noon until 6:00 PM in the Azalea Gardens at Bryan Park. Enjoy vegetarian food, music, speakers, local businesses, non-profits, and family activities. Check out the full list of vendors here. There will also be six speakers, two of which will be cooking demos. Proceeds benefit the Richmond Wildlife Center. Visit the event website here.

Enjoy food trucks, live music at the RVA Street Food Festival on Brown’s Island – The RVA Street Food Festival, a new event, takes place this Saturday on Brown’s Island. For $8, you’ll get access to nine food trucks–not the largest lineup you’ll find around town, but still something. The real feature here is the music, though. There’s an impressive lineup of bands who, separately, might charge $10-$15 for a show around town, but eight bucks will get you access to them all. They include The Southern Belles, Cris Jacobs Band, Life on Mars: a David Bowie Tribute, Mighty Joshua & Zion 5, Eastern Standard Time, Horsehead, Red Light Rodeo, and King Easy. The music and food kick off at noon. Oh, by the way, I feel as though it’s my duty to inform you this is a dry event–no alcohol sold here. Get your tickets online at the ticketing page.

Carbon Leaf plays Music at Maymont – Richmond favorites Carbon Leaf will take the stage at Maymont Saturday evening as part of the park’s Music at Maymont series. The nationally-known rockers will follow folk group Me and My Brother. Doors open at 6:00 PM; the openers take the stage at 6:45. Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 at the gate. Feel free to bring your own chairs and blankets. Get your tickets online here.

Sunday

Celebrate Pride Day at Castleburg Brewery – Castleburg Brewery (they’re a small brewery just down the street from Hardywood on Ownby Lane) is hosting a pride celebration Sunday with a lineup of music all day long. Amy Henderson starts the music off at 1:30 PM, followed by Rachel Leyco, DJ Alexander Cortes, and Paige Miller, who will wrap at 7:30 PM. RVA New York Style will be on hand all day serving up food all day, too. Those in rainbow attire will receive a discount off their first pint of beer, and if you make a donation to Friends of Side by Side you’ll get a discount off your entire tab. Plus, Castleburg will match all donations up to $300. Free to enter. Learn more here.
