Richmond Public Schools has a new interim superintendent, effective July 1st. Tommy Kranz, the current COO of the school system, will take the helm after current superintendent Dr. Dana T. Bedden leaves his post effective June 30th.

Bedden’s contract was terminated two years shy of his original agreement–the reasons for which are still somewhat unclear as board members still refuse to publicly comment on the matter.

The decision was made around 3:00 AM Tuesday morning and came at the end of a grueling five-hour closed door session that followed the general School Board meeting, which began at 5:00 PM Monday evening.

The search for Dr. Bedden’s permanent replacement was tabled at last night meeting. Official discussion on the matter will resume in July.
