We’ve got Osprey Cam, now we need Otter Cam

You can help two otters make it into the movies, technically video but they’re sure to be stars either way.

RVA Osprey Cam is a great voyeuristic peek into the lives of a family of osprey living on the James River. Currently the Osprey Cam show some very soggy chicks. When it comes to cute though, the osprey don’t hold a candle to those clowns of the river, the otter.

Maymont is currently crowd funding a camera for their newest additions. The otters are transports from Louisana, where they were enjoying the catfish buffet at a local catfish farm. Last week was the first time the pair were on public display. If Maymont reaches its goal of $3,000 you’ll be able watch local osprey and semi-local osprey at the same time. Goodbye any pretense of getting work done.

From Maymont:

You “otter” visit soon, but when you can’t get away to enjoy time at Maymont, you will still be able to watch these rescued otters play and swim on our proposed OTTER CAM. That’s right – with your help, everyone can see the awesome antics of our furry and fun-loving RVA sweethearts any time of day in the comfort of your home (or at work…we won’t tell!)  And, should you feel so generous, there is an opportunity built into your giving to NAME one of the new otters! Check out our giving levels below for details!

Our mission is to preserve and celebrate Maymont for the pleasure and education of everyone, and the otters truly embody that spirit. Your donation to the otter “cam”paign will help to enhance the Maymont experience, inspire appreciation of Virginia wildlife, and give Maymont fans and nature lovers a wonderful way to connect to these special animals and learn about their daily lives.

Anything raised above and beyond our goal amount will go to support Maymont’s mission and will allow us to continue the amazing care we provide for all of the animals at Maymont.

*Please note: Recommendations for animal house names can come from any source, but must be vetted through the Habitats staff, under the supervision of the Director of Habitats and the Nature Center. We do try to use animal names to offer an educational moment about the animal, where it came from, or Maymont itself, i.e. The house name for one of our American bald eagles is Quincy, named in honor of the 6th President of the United States (John Quincy Adams). Should you have any questions, please contact Emily Cruz at [email protected] or 804-358-7166.
