Regal Cinemas planning new multiplex on Regency Square site, RTD reports

What’s old is new again in the Regency Square area.

Everything is coming full circle for Regal Cinemas in the West End, it would seem. Remember Ridge Cinema on Ridge Road near the mall? Popular in the 1980s and 1990s, attendance eventually waned, especially after the same chained opened a megaplex in Short Pump in 1999. It was eventually closed and demolished, and the site is now the home of a Kroger grocery store.

NBC12 anchor Curt Autry shared the below images of the old theater this morning.

Well, what’s old is new again. Regal is planning to construct a new movie theater nearby as part of the mall’s planned renovations, and the RTD has the scoop.

Regal Cinemas plans to put a movie theater complex at Regency Square.

The movie chain has signed a letter of intent with the mall’s owners, said Rob Hargett, a principal with Chesterfield County-based The Rebkee Co. which bought the mall with Thalhimer Realty Partners.
